Crooked Back Handsprings

TumblingTIPS Index

Hey, coach Its an honor to talk to you I just wanted to ask when I do my back-handspring I keep looking over my shoulder which causes my back handspring to look crooked. What do I do? And also how long does it take for your tape to come in?

Hi,
Depending on who you order my videos from it may take anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks to arrive. If you want to order from me directly...www.CoachWayne.com either use the PayPal or 800# options with priority shipping for fastest delivery.

Remember the back-handspring is a BLIND entry. That means you will not SEE where you are springing to until AFTER you've landed. Usually, the twist/turn your describing happens when a student is attempting to SEE the floor where her hands are going.

Practice with a spotter & slow down the leg-spring & arm reach for a few dozen handsprings and see if you can REACH for the mat with your hands without looking... instead... FEEL how your body is traveling and moving and let the FEELING guide you to your hands... also, use your peripheral vision to keep your orientation.

With matting (an incline mat with a folding mat on top of it is great) you can create a workout environment that lets you experiment some... to learn and play with small variations in your handspring. Think of it as STUDYING your handspring... and explore how different changes in your timing, approach, push, etc. affect the results you are getting.

Have fun, be safe push HARD!
~CW!

Hi. I recently bought your video on how to do a better back handspring. I am a cheerleading instructor (it's my first year) and I have discovered that I also need to be a tumbling instructor as well. Although I grew up cheering and mastered many tumbling skills myself, I had forgotten the learning process and need tips on how to really teach correct form and control. I now pretend I am Coach Wayne in practice and make my girls do the drills you have taught. WOW! I saw an improvement on the first day!

I was wondering if you were considering making a video on the back tuck. Standing tucks and rbhs-tucks are really important for my girls who are improving faster than I can learn to teach! I remember drills for the tuck that I used to do (such as spotted tucks uphill with a spot as you mention in your "tumbling tips") but I am sure you could break down a tuck and fill a week's worth of drills like you do for the bhs. If you are considering making one, or even if you need a little nudge, just let me know! I would be the first to buy it!
